One of MW's French artist Jules Julien's work has been plagiarized for Chinese candy company, 猫哆哩 MAODUOLI without any copy right permission.
We found out this news from a chinese news reporter on 8/3/2011. (http://e.chengdu.cn/html/2011-08/04/content_253636.htm)
We've mailed the warning statement letter with the evidence of proprietor of the artwork to show when/how this work made and concept and proofs of his work created and featured in exhibitions and magazines in chronological order. We asked them to pay the price for plagiarism and remove the logo immediately.
MAODUOLI responded us on 8/30/2011 insisting that this is their original work and they will NOT do anything unless we have any copyright certificate or authoritative evidence. We've sent every evidence and they are still asking official copy right certificate document?!
We are speaking more people for any advise and Artist is speaking with French Embassy. This is where we are now.
This is unbelievably shocking news to us. We are very furious and speechless about their untrue and unmoral attitude and correspondence.

憤りをおさえられない大変残念なことがおこった。
Jules Julienの代表作品の１つ「Pet Series」の猫作品が中国・成都にある猫哆哩 （まおどぅおり）という飴企業のロゴとして無断に使用されていたのが発覚した。
8月の頭に成都の新聞社から盗作の件を聞き、Julienの作品を使ったロゴは商品パッケージやCM、ウェブなど広範囲で使用されていることが判明。さらに、このデザインを盗作した北京揽胜广告有限公司 LOOK & LISTEN AD AGENCYのデザイナーは堂々と中国のツイッターに自分の作品として書き込んでいたことが発覚。
ただちに、ロゴの撤回と賠償について警告文を送ったものの、先方側からは自分たちで作ったオリジナルロゴだと主張するのみで反省の様子も全く見えない。
Julienの作品としての証明も全てだしているのに、先方の弁護士側からは証明不十分といわれ、こちらも弁護士をたてないとこれ以上は戦えない。やはり法務上で戦うしか、方法はないのだろうか。この人たちのモラルや誠実はどうなっているのか？
中国ではそこそこの大企業らしく、だからこそまずは相手の態度を信じたかったが、全くだめだった。。。
アーティスト側は、フランス大使館と今度の対応を検討中。
とにかくこのようなことが今後起きないためにも、この企業のモラルについての改善を期待しつつブログすることにした。
アーティストのような一個人は非常に立場が弱い。このような大企業が相手では、訴訟するのは非常に大変なことである。こういった弱みにつけこんで生じる事例も多いのではないかと思う。まして中国。あまりのモラルの低さにショックで言葉を失う。
私自身も中国に住み、たくさんの大切な友達もいたり、実際ビジネスもしているので思い入れも人一倍強いが、だからこそこういった事件が起きたときには本当につらいし、きちんと正してもらうまであきらめることができない。
